BA #12
Everyday I take notes, text message, or send an email. The way I write in those types of communication are totally different than the way I approach scholarly writing. When I email, text or take notes I use abbreviations. For example, I write “u” instead of you or “b/c” short for because. I do this because it is quicker and a lot easier. I have made this type of writing a habit because I’m used to doing it daily. Therefore, I have noticed when writing or typing papers I am abbreviating instead of writing the entire word. Over the past three months I feel like I really learned how to analyze a paper. Before when asked to analyze or paraphrase a paper I thought it was the same thing. Well I was wrong and now I feel as if I know how to analyze correctly. Also in high school the English teachers really hammered the 5 paragraph paper in our head and I stuck to it. I had to have my thesis before writing my paper and my thesis had 3 points and those points were my body paragraphs. I quickly learned it doesn’t have to be like that. So over the semester I learned several things and also the Brief Handbook helped a lot when writing papers.
